About Us

The Ridges Tack Shop, your equestrian lifestyle store,  is located in the heart of beautiful downtown Port Perry, ON.

The Ridges is owned by Jody Urquhart, a long-time equestrienne and veterinary technician who has worked extensively in equine and small animal practices. She has owned horses most of her life and for over a decade has been involved with eventing horses including showing her own horse, Dexter, and training her naughty Welsh pony, Piper. She is committed to providing friendly, knowledgeable customer service in a welcoming atmosphere, as well as continuing to add quality merchandise at the best possible price.

The store is filled with beautiful leather tack, fashionable apparel, equine themed gifts and top quality grooming products. Whether you’re a competitive rider, a weekend warrior or appreciate the equestrian lifestyle, we have everything you need!

My mom used to ride when she was younger and that got me intrigued. I have been hooked ever since she took me to my first lesson when I was seven.

I have always wanted to ride on the Canadian Young Riders Event Team and move up the levels of Eventing. I own a 16-year-old, 16.2h Holsteiner mare, Stella, and we compete at preliminary. I train with Kendal Lehari (jumping) and Tanya Buchanan (dressage). I want to become the best rider I can be, compete and have fun riding. I started riding at a hunter-jumper barn, but after Mom wanted to take dressage lessons, we moved to Michele Mueller’s Cedar Valley Stables where she could take dressage and I could take jump lessons. After a couple of years, I leased a pony from Michele and at our first show in the pre-entry division at Glen Oro, and we placed place first. That’s when I knew I was meant for Eventing. I competed at one more show with the pony then got Stella as an awesome birthday present four years ago!

Stella and I have had many ups and downs, but I believe those experiences have made us a great team and pair for the future of eventing. We plan to make our first appearance in the CCI* this coming season and I aspire to be on the Junior Young Riders Event Team for Canada.
